About the LegLanger Calculation Tool
The development of an online calculation tool is one of the three components of the LegLanger project, a project by Pehestat, ILVO and Proefbedrijf Pluimveehouderij. The online calculation tool will help poultry farmers to estimate whether it is economically profitable to keep a flock longer.
The online calculation tool aims to give a good prediction of the optimal age of the hens as early as possible in the round with a limited number of parameters. For this purpose, technical, veterinary and economic parameters are taken into account, such as performance, health, welfare, costs and returns. The laying percentage and the mortality data form the basis for this. Specific statistical models are developed that give an indication of the optimal age per type of laying hen and per housing type.
The online calculation tool will be developed, tested and validated based on data from the project. After launching it will be periodically adjusted based on feedback from poultry farmers, with regard to the effective culling date.
